Bill Oddie has died at the age of 85 after long illness, heartbroken friend Eric Idle reveals – as tributes pour in for beloved wildlife presenter and comedian

Bill Oddie had been ‘sick for some time’ before his death at the age of 85, his close friend Eric Idle revealed today. 

The Monty Python star, 83, had known him since 1963 when they met at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where Mr Oddie auditioned him for a part in The Pembroke Review.

Far from being rivals, the friends, both anarchic comedians who were two years apart at university, discovered they were mad football fans and were at Wembley together to watch England beat West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final.
