Green leader Polanski faces move to block him from being party’s Holborn by-election candidate – after he admits he plans to commute by bike from trendy East London if he wins

The Greens’ leader Zack Polanski is facing being blocked from running as his party’s candidate in the Holborn by-election.

Mr Polanski hopes to stand in next month’s vote to replace Sir Keir Starmer in the North London seat after the former prime minister announced last week he is quitting parliament.

But Hamza Chowdhury, who represents Holborn and Covent Garden on Camden Council, announced he was also running today and claimed the backing of six more of the Greens’ 10 councillors, including group leader Lorna Jane Russell.
