Memorial tributes flood in today as the nation remembers the harrowing 9/11 attacks from twenty five years ago.
On September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger planes, flying two of them into the World Trade Center and one into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Passengers and crew on the fourth plane fought back against the hijackers and crashed the aircraft into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
At least 2,977 died as a result.
This week, New York City honored the victims of the tragic attacks by recreating the Twin Towers with 2,977 illuminated drones.
