A baby boy whose mummified remains were found under floorboards wrapped in a 1910 newspaper was deliberately ‘garrotted’ with twine, an inquest has found.
Mystery has surrounded the newborn, who had string wrapped around his neck, after he was discovered during building works at a flat above a pizza shop in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, in July 2024.
But a coroner has now concluded the ‘defenceless infant’ was murdered and recorded a conclusion of unlawful killing.
The ‘partially mummified’ remains were found at 67A Fore Bondgate, built in the late 1800s, wrapped in a copy of The Umpire newspaper from June 1910.
