Heartbroken families of girl and boy, both 16, pay tribute to teens killed when car plunged into River Wear

The families of a pair of teenagers killed after the car they were travelling in plunged into a river have today paid tribute to the youngsters.

Luke Etheridge and Zara Shaw, both 16, died alongside 17-year-old Jackson Duke on Tuesday afternoon after the black Audi A3 went into the River Wear in Sunderland.

A 17-year-old was able to get to safety and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. 

He has since been bailed and Northumbria Police said inquiries to establish who was driving at the time are ongoing.
