Andrew Garfield is praised for his ‘unsettling and terrifying’ turn as OpenAI boss Sam Altman in Artificial as movie bosses reveal plans for Oscars push

Andrew Garfield has emerged as a contender for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, after earning praise from critics for his ‘unsettling’ performance in Artificial.

The Spider-Man star, 43, plays OpenAI founder Sam Altman in the black comedy, and following its premiere at the New York Film Festival, critics have begun to share their thoughts on the film. 

Directed by Luca Guadagnino, Artificial focuses on Altman’s controversial firing and re-hiring at OpenAI in 2023.

Critics have now taken to social media to praise the film as Luca’s ‘best in a decade’, and lauded its ‘gutting’ of Silicon Valley culture.
