The UK is bracing for its ‘hottest day ever’ as hundreds of schools close early, army ceremonies are cancelled and people are warned not to travel as Europe’s ‘heat dome could see temperatures exceed 40C.

At least 312 schools are fully closing or closing early, with parents being told their children can wear PE kits and sandals amid parts of England being placed on red alert over extreme temperatures.
